  • Problem with decklink HD card

Posted by Al on September 30, 2005 at 6:02 pm

I posted earlier about controlling my AJ-SD930 deck via SDI, but I figured it out using firewire as device control. However I can now control the deck, but I can’t get any image feed into the computer, UNLESS I fast forward or rewind the tape. If I do that, I can see an image in FCP or in the BlackMagic deck control, but as soon as I press play, the card tells me there is no Video Input.
I’m worried because I’m not sure the problem comes from the card, the deck, the cables, or who knows what.
    Any help most appreciated…
    Thanks

First I would unplug the firwire so you’re sure the video signal you are getting is from the decklink SDI and not from the firewire In.
Then, check your audio settings, if your deck is set to 8 channel and FCP is set to 4, it won’t capture…or vise versa..

Use the easy-setups to pick the setting you want to make sure everything is as it should be.

You can’t control a deck via SDI signal, you have to use the serial connector on the decklink or firewire as you did. SDI signal only carries video and audio info.

Also check to make sure your deck is set to play out SDI as it might be in firewire mode.

    Good luck

    Hello Chris

Thanks for your reply. Things are getting a bit more complex… I unplugged the FW cable, and seen from the BlackMagic Deck Control, things stayed exactly the same, i.e no image when deck is paused, but image when deck is in FW or RW mode…
In FCP however things are worse… I created an easy setup as you suggested, but now I don’t have a feed whether I FW, RW or play at all….

Do you think this could be an issue like a bad card?

    Thanks
    Alex
