  Problem with CS3 upgrade for Knoll Light Factory 2.5

  I recently upgraded my workstation from a G5 to a Mac Pro Quad Core [mac intel] running OSX 10.4.9
  I purchased the CS3 upgrade for Knoll Light Factory 2.5. I installed the plugins the way Red Giant suggested.
  The plugins are in the effects menu and are operational in AE8.
  The problem starts when I open a legacy project created in AE7 in AE8.
  When I click on a layer where Knoll Light Factory 2.0 was used, the plugin shows up in the effects channel [of the ae8 project] but there is no flare applied to the layer. This is a massive problem as I have massive projects created in ae7 that I need to open in ae8 and have Knoll Light Factory 2.5 recognize the previously created flares properly. How can this be fixed?
