    Hi there,

I’m having a problem this morning – one of the files in my fcp project has got corrupted, its a quicktime export from Avid, hence it is a .mov file with a .aif file of the same name. When I launch fcp it hangs for ages claiming it is searching for data in the .aif file. It never finds it and then crashes.

I checked out the problem file, and it doesn’t open in quicktime, so does seem to have got corrupted. However the .aif itself will open in quicktime, and the .mov part will open in mpeg streamclip. But it won’t export properly from mpeg streamclip even though it seems to all be there when it opens.

Is there any way anyone can suggest that I can either try to ‘fix’ the corrupted file, or in some other way get the fcp project to open without searching for it so it doesn’t crash?

    Many thanks!

If you have Disk Warrior try running it on all drives. It’s possible the bad file is just fragmented badly or the file header info has become messed up, which could be straightened out by DW.

thanks – that could be worth a try..
If anyone else has the same issue – I found a way of getting back into the project at least.. if you rename the problem file the project reopens with the file unlinked, rather than just hanging and then crashing as it searches for data.

Fortunately most of the footage I needed must still exist in fcps render directory – so even though it shows up as unlinked I was able to export something usuable..
