Problem with bright lines at the edge of shadows
I am having an issue with the appearance of bright lines on an object at the edge of soft shadows. (See attached on the back of the bald character’s head.) I have fiddled with the bias in the past, but I had to crank it so far to make these lines disappear that there was almost no detail in the shadows left. Any thoughts?

I should add the lights are rectangular area lights, in z-direction only
