Problem with adding effects to images in 3d
I’m making 2.5D animation in AE, importing Photoshop files and using them as 3D objects. The problem I run into is, as soon as I apply an effect to one of the objects it starts to act according to it’s placement in the layers list. Before applying the effect it covers what is behind it in the 3D space and is covered by what is in front of it in the 3D space. After I apply an effect the 3D eclipsing is stopped, Even if I want to do something as simple as adjusting the levels a little. Reordering the files in the layers list is not an option. How can I apply effects and get AE to continue treating files as 3D objects?

Layer styles are rendered last, its just how After Effects works since it is not a node based compositor.
Just adding effects should not mess up the 3D layer ordering, only adding layer styles should do this. If you want to add a layer style, you should precompose that layer, and apply the style in the precomposition.
