February 23, 2013 at 9:08 amDoes your photoshop project really have transparency in the image? Because I tried to make a 24 bit PNG with transparency and it worked.

I seems that there is no transparency in the Original Image File that you have downloaded from web.
As Tero said, there should be transparency in the Photoshop Document. Just select the White or Black BG using Magic Wand Tool and delete that in such a way that you have the main subject only. You will see white and black small squares as BG in Photoshop. Now save the file as 24 bit PNG.

February 23, 2013 at 11:01 amIf you download some random picture off the internet it won’t magically create transparency even if you export it with it 😉

April 14, 2017 at 5:20 amMight be worth mentioning that I had the same issue and was scratching my head. I did all of the above but realized thet the image was greayscale and not RGB, so even though it showed the chequered transparency etc it still was coming up as a solid in AE. Maybe obvious but thought it could help incase others come across this.
