Activity Forums Apple Final Cut Pro Legacy Problem: Transferring HDV Quicktime clips from FCP to PC machines

The DV files shouldn’t be a problem. But HDV…now that will be. You need the latest version of quicktime and FCP for you to view them. On a PC, they can’t vew them…due to the GOP structure and way FCP captures the footage. Avid Express Pro HD now can capture HDV natively, but in a different format (wrapper…codec, whathaveyou). You aren’t going to be able to exchange the HDV files this way.

As for teh 2 GB file limit…that is the reason many PC formats limit file sizes to 2GB…because PCs have trouble reading them.

And people wonder why we like Macs so much. Sheesh.

I was just told had nothing to do with the GOP structure since they are standard.
If not, could you explain me why and how it does not work do to the GOP structure?

I understood the GOP structure was determined by the camera recording information to tape initially and not the capture of it.
Did you end up with your capture as a mpeg2?
HDV footage I captured (on a pc) was viewable with Windows media player on pc and quicktime 6 on mac, with mpeg2 component. But to edit it was a pain had to export to a mov. first. Can be done with FFmeg streamclip.
Also I found that the mpeg2 clips were stuttery in some slightly older pcs using WMP, just a disk streaming and processing thing. So a standard office pc would have trouble playing them.
