Problem transcoding

I’m having a problem transcoding a .mov in Encore. Any help you could provide would be much appreciated as i am in a real mess.
Basically, i’m importing into Encore a .mov; it is a film i have just edited and is over an hour long. It begins trasncoding the video first, which undertsandably takes a long time. When the audio starts to transcode it stops at 10%. I have tried a number of bitrates, variable and constant, high and low quality and still the same result – it stops at 10% when transcoding the audio.
Does anyone have any idea what the problem could be? Or have any suggestions of decent codecs, encoders or software that could encode to mpeg-2?
Have to get the cut out for Monday – any suggestions or help you could provide would be a great help.

Try exporting the video and audio only as separate files. If you’re working with QuickTime for instance, then your audio export file format would likely be AIFF.
