By way of an update, I just figured out that my camcorder’s firewire is “out” only & is therefore incapable of sending a signal on to the TV.

So my next option is to see if I can get my Dazzle Hollywood AV converter to do the trick. I’m pretty sure it should on paper but when I tried it earlier, I wasn’t being very methodical so I think I ought to try again.

well. Aparently I am a one trick pony. I was going to say that perhaps your camera didn’t acctept a dvd signal. But you figured that out. But avoid Dazzle. Doesn’t work with FCP well. Get Canopus ADVC

Well, I’m making some kind of progress but I’ve only managed to get as far as a black & white picture on the TV that isn’t moving while the video is playing.

I did that by changing my output settings to NTSC instead of PAL.

So, the camcorder tapes that I captured were all PAL. I’ve been working in PAL all the way through but if I try & output to my TV in PAL all I get is a picture made of small black & white blocks.

As soon as I change it to NTSC I get a full black & white picture that doesn’t move but just updates to the latest frame when I pause playback.

To make matters worse, my TV (a Philips set approximately 10 years old – model number 28pw6332/05) appears to be SECAM but the manual is not big on technical data so I can really get much further.

Bottom line is it doesn’t work. I give up. I’ve wasted my whole weekend on this & I’m thinking “stuff it, I’ll buy a proper monitor on Monday & create a permanent set-up I can rely on instead of all this time wasting.”

I seem to be having a similar problem, though I am working with Final Cut Express HD, and I cannot seem to locate the options you spoke of here. I have the camera connected to my Intel iMac through Firewire. Then, I have the camera connected to my TV via RCA cable. I do not have any drives daisy chained, but I do have an external firewire drive attached to the iMac. It has the video files on it.

Any ideas?? I could really use some help here. Thanks.
