Hey guys, I just did a fairly large render – 3508 x 4961 and my camera has got a rear depth of field added to it. Although my object is fairly flat, I can see some blur taking place at the rear of the object in the “picture viewer”. I have saved it straight from this as a TIFF and also had it multi-pass to PSD layers. However, when I view the saved TIFF or my photoshop doc, the blur doesn’t appear to be there. Any suggestions? Of course, I have the depth of field option selected and checked in the effects tab of my render settings.

Any help is appreciated. Thanks in advance.

The blur should only be in the PSD. Also it is most likely in the Channels not the layers.

Personally for DOF in stills I get the best results by rendering a Depth Pass and using a lens blur on that pass in Photoshop you get far more control and it renders faster. I think there is a tutorial for this at the c4dcafe.com

Sweet thanks a lot, I got a bit of a hand with masking the channel layer from a friend cos I’m pretty amateur in photoshop but your method worked fine. Just gotta perfect how much it blurs cos right now the depth of field blur doesn’t look as good as it does straight from C4D but I get the general idea…I think.

    Cheers, Eugene
