Problem Reading DVCPRO HD on a Mac
I have done a few days worth of research and cannot find a clear solution to this problem.
I have a bunch of QT DVCPRO HD files that I am trying to edit with Final Cut 5.0.4. All of the footage was shot by a friend on Panasonic P2, imported to and exported from Final Cut Studio using the DVCPRO HD codec, put on to a disc and then uploaded to my external hard drive.
I cannot play the files in QT or in Final Cut, even with my sequence settings on DVCPRO HD, 720p24. The audio plays, but there is just a black screen. No visual. Any ideas?
I’ve read that Final Cut 5.0.4 was the first Final Cut compatible with DVCPRO HD, and that there were some bugs. Do I really need to upgrade to 6.0 to see this footage?

No…as I stated on the Apple forum, all you need to do is reinstall FCP on top of what you have, and then update (if needed), to install the missing component.

I’m confused. Wasn’t FCP 5.0.4 the first to be compatible with DVCPRO HD footage? If I can select it as a sequence setting, doesn’t that infer that I ‘have’ the codec?

Not necessarily. You can have the preset and not the codec. Look in the HD>LIBRARY>Quicktime folder. See DVCPRO HD? If not, you are missing it.
