  • Problem playing DVD’s created with DVDA 3

I have created a number of DVD’s with DVDA 3. Some are simple, single movies, and others have a menu with more than one title. Nothing ground breaking or fancy. The resulting DVD’s play fine on computer, however in my home DVD player (an LG hard disk / dvd recorder), none of the menus work. The DVD plays and you can select the first title no problem and it plays. If you press the menu button on the remote control, the LG displays “disc error”. Also, It won’t play the 2nd title from the menu. The only way to get the second title to play is to hit the next chapter button when playing the 1st title.

I have created multilevel DVD’s with ulead’s DVD software and don’t get the issue on the LG system. Same brand and speed of media being used.

It’s really frustrating. Are there different ways to program the menu behaviour ? Could DVDA write disks differently to other packages ?

Is there something I am missing out or doing wrong ?

    Thanks in advance

That’s pretty odd. What happens if you strat playing from a different navigation point?

Ok, the DVD player I am having trouble with is the LG RH4820. I have a DVD with two titles, each title with a single chapter. When I select the first title to play, it plays, but hitting the menu button results in disc error. If I select the second title from the DVD menu, it results in disc error.

If I play the first title and click next chapter button on the DVD remote (whilst it’s playing), it will play the second title. If I then hit the menu button (whilst playing the second title) the menu appears. I added a third title and this behaves the same way as the second title (i.e. it won’t play from the menu, but when you use chapter select button when either the first or second title is playing, the menu button returns to the menu).

This is strange, and all I can think is that there must be a setting wrong in my DVDA setup that is confusing the hell out the LG player. The DVD works fine in a computer drive or a portable DVD player that I have.

Now here’s the kick. I created the same DVD using Ulead MovieFactory disc creator, and it works exactly as expected in the LG player, which is why I don’t think it’s the DVD player, and that there is something odd in DVDA or some setting/setup that I am getting wrong.

It’s starting to drive me to drink.

I have experienced a very similar problem also. I have an LG HDD/DVD recorder – RH7823W.

A DVD recorded with DVDA and with two menu options will start but a ‘menu navigation’ error occurs if I select the first item. The second item plays ok. The same disk works perfectly on my cheap Chinese ‘Celestial’ DVD player and on any of my PC software-based DVD players.

I also have ULead Movie Studio and it generates a DVD that works perfectly in all players.

I sense a pattern developing here and it seems to point to LG’s implementation of the DVD standards. I hope there is some parameter that can be set in DVDA …
