Problem Importing Project File
Hi Forum…
I recently archived a lot of files to a server. When I try to open up project files (fcp and aep) that were archived, both programs won’t do it. They just give a message like “Unable to import file.” I tried opening them up from the server as well as copying them to my local drives, then trying to open them. There’s a lot of work wrapped up in those files. There are many other types of files on the server (jpg, psd, mov…they all work perfectly).
In the future, I’ll definitely keep a copy of all project files on my local drives.
Is there any way to salvage these project files, or is this a tough lesson learned?

Did you try opening a new AEP, then importing the bad AEP into that?
(Don’t know about the FCP projects)

Can you give us any more information about the server and your local computer? What file systems are the media using and what OS(es) are you running? I’ve had similar things happen when going between different file systems.

Yes, the server is running OSX and I’m working on an Apple with OSX 10.4.9

Welp, I’m out of ideas =) unless your server is using a funky file system (not HFS+, which is not likely) there shouldn’t be any problems with the file system causing a loss of file compatibility.
Do the file sizes of the archived projects look correct? No zero K files?
Does AE give any more information when it says “Unable to import file”?
