  • Problem Importing P2 into FCP 6.0.2

Posted by Bill Campbell on February 14, 2008 at 1:40 pm

I can’t seem to get the P2 mxf files to even show up in the Log and Transfer window of FCP 6.0.2 Leopard OS x. MacBook Pro. to be imported.

    – I copied the CONTENTS + LASTCLIP files from the P2 card in the camera to my hard drive. The files seem fine on the drive, as I can view them in the P2CMS program.

    – In FCP I click on the folder that holds the CONTENTS + LASTCLIP files using the add folder button in the top left corner of the L+T window…and nothing.

    – I have repaired disk permission.
    – I have removed FX Factory plug ins
    – I have upgraded my system & QT to the latest

Odd thing is that at work on our FCP 6, G5 PowerMac, OS X 10.4 the process works fine!

Any thoughts welcome – thanks bill

That would seem to indicate that something else on your system is preventing FCP from seeing the P2 files. Do you have any more FX Plug plugins? They might be the issue.

If not, then you might have to do what I did to narrow down the culprit:

Appreciate the feedback Shane, I had already read through the post on your web and it had alerted me to the FX factory issues.
Maybe I’ll try trashing my FCP prefs and removing all Plug-ins then …If ‘you’ don’t know about it then it’s definitely my computer that’s the issue.
We are getting an EX1 next week…I can’t wait to see if the workflow is more efficient…just not what it’s cracked up to be this P2…I’ve been at it for a year now and it doesn’t get better.

Sorry you are having issues. I have not had any, besides that FX Factory one…and well, the other which was to uncheck REMOVE PULLDOWN in the Log and Transfer prefs, but since they won’t even show up, I don’t think that is your issue.

Dunno how the EX1 workflow will differ. Still shoot to cards, convert the files to QT files (only in the case with the EX1, you need to do this outside of FCP), archive the original files and use the cards again. And the EX1 cards don’t contain any metadata other than timecode. And the EX1 only shoots HD, not SD.

    But, try it and see.

FYI: P2Log Pro can often import and convert clips to QT that FCP won’t. https://www.imagineproducts.com/P2log.htm

There’s also a “Repair Tool” to rebuild Contents folders should something go awry.

Video logging is just the beginning…

Instead of just removing the FxFactory plugs from the plug-ins folder, I had to do an UnInstall from the FxFactory disc. Oddly enough it wasn’t on the 2.0 version but there is one on the 1.07 disc which was my original version. FxFactory buries some files somewhere on the drive for registration purposes because when I reinstalled them, my reg stuff was still there. So the UnInstall gets you back to good and then upgrade to 2.0.1 for FxFactory.
