March 10, 2008 at 9:27 pmHi Guys
I’ve been having the same problem as Doug, in that I recorded in 720/25P, not knowing that I should have shot in 25PN.
I’m just about to hand the rushes over to an editor that’s never used P2 before. I’ve been trying to sort the 50fps problem out. Tried turning on the ‘remove duplicate frames’, but my footage still needed rendering in the 25P codec. Is this always going to be the case? What’s the loss in quality going to be? And does anyone have idea what problems there might be when outputting? This is a pretty slick look pop-promo I’ve shot, and I’d hate for it to be compromised by my incompetence!!!!
Help appreciated.

This shouldn’t be true. What version of FCP are you on and are you sure your footage is 25p after import and is your sequence matching your footage?

I’m on FCP 5.1.4 . My footage is 50P, Final Cut (in the browser) says that the compressor is 720p50, which matches the footage, but the vid rate (in browser too) says sequence is 25fps, but footage is 50fps.
Any ideas?

Yes, I do have some ideas but since I have not worked with PAL based p2 I can only offer friendly advice. FCP 5.1.4 does not accept 720p50 natively. Upgrading to Final Cut Studio 2 should cure your workflow ails. Also, have you tried using the panasonic frame rate converter on your imported 720p50 footage?
Interestingly, FCP 5.1.4 did support 25pN, just not 720p50, which is what your footage is.
Also, I found these:

Like I said, I can only offer conjecture as I do not have the means to test this out personally. I believe I am pointing you in the proper direction, but if I have mislead you it is not on purpose. If you write over in the p2 forum I bet you will get the definitive answer.
