Problem importing mpeg2 into CS2 (used to work)
Hi all. I suddenly have problems importing mpeg2 files (mpg2 video and mp2 audio) into premiere CS2.
It used to work, but i had to reinstall my system due to a processor and motherboard upgrade. I reinstalled CS2 with all plugins i was using before. Basically it is the same config, but it won’t import mpeg2 files anymore. Neither in a new or an existing project. This is a big problem, because i have several finished and unfinished projects which contain small snippets of mpeg2 files.
In CS2 the file just keeps pending. It seems to be stuck on an endless loop of creating index files. ( i quit the process after i had like 100 index files for the same MPEG2 file)
I also have CS3 installed and this imports mpeg2 files fine. But i would like to keep working in cs2 with old cs2 projects…
The same mpeg2 files also import fine in after effects cs2.I don’t understand why it works in CS3, but not in CS2. There must be some setting i forgot about. (although i remember i did not install any plugin or change any setting prior to importing mpeg2 files in the past) I am puzzled…

I have demuxed the mpeg2 file and it’s the m2v (video) which is giving problems. The mpa/mp2 (audio) imports fine. The .m2v is also stuck in an endless loop.

Thanks, but i read that wiki before. I don’t want to buy the mainconcept plugin, because it used to work fine without any plugin. Plus, it is no use to convert the mpeg2 files to avi, because then the projects will be useless as well. I need to get the old project files working.
However, i have fixed the issue. I discovered for some weird reason the media cache directory was read only, so Premiere v2 could not write cache files to hd. It would have saved me a lot of hassle if premiere just told me what was wrong instead of trying to write massive amounts of index files.
