  • Problem importing into Vegas (last few seconds getting trimmed)

Posted by Terry Creech on December 2, 2010 at 2:06 am

I’ve created some .mpg files myself using the following method:

    1. Create .ISO file of a DVD using DVD Shrink 3.2.
    2. Load .ISO file into VideoRedo.
    3. Clip out the portion i’m interested in and save it as a .MPG file.

The problem i’m having is that the clips are consistently cutting out the last 3 seconds (+ or – a few seconds) when i import it into Sony Vegas. Regardless of the length, the last 3 seconds are trimmed out (20 minute clip would import 19 minutes 57 sec of the file…. 40 sec clip would import 37 sec of the file and so on).

When playing the .MPG files through a number of players (.VLC, windows mediaplayer, mediaplayer classic, DivX player) it plays the entire clip without any of it being cut off.

Any ideas? Basically if i can watch a 40 second clip on a bunch of standard media players i would expect that i would be able to import the 40 second clip into Sony Vegas (and not just 37 seconds of it).

I would guess that Vegas does not like the MPEG files that VideoRedo creates. Why don’t you just use File | Import | DVD Camcorder Disc in Vegas and then edit out the parts you don’t want?

I share out some of the .MPG files online with other users and i wouldn’t want them to experience the same issue i’m experiencing. I’d either have to add 5 seconds of fluff footage or possibly there are some options in VideoRedo to prevent this from occurring.

I tested out a clip that was being cut and loaded it in Windows Movie Maker just to see if it experienced the same problem. It would play the entire file with no problems. Can you think of anything that might be causing it to be getting cut off in Sony Vegas yet play fine in WMM, VLC, DivX player, Windows Media Player, etc.

Yea, if it’s an illegal MPEG2 file (i.e., it doesn’t conform the a strict GOP of 15 frames) it might be playable but not editable. There’s nothing you can do about this accept to stop using the tool that’s producing it.

Once again… why don’t you just use File | Import | DVD Camcorder Disc in Vegas and then edit out the parts you don’t want?
