  • Problem importing image sequence

Posted by Nick Baker on February 21, 2011 at 5:08 pm

I have been using Vegas Movie Studio Platinum 10 to import a sequence of rendered images that I produced using Cinema 4D. I had no problems with my first project and it imported a series of .tif files so that a movie was created on my timeline.

Unfortunately, in my new project I don’t seem to be able to import the images. I have tried various file formats (.png, .tga, .tif etc.) but the check box to `import image sequence’ is greyed out. I have tried converting to different file types but still no luck. I tried importing my old sequence of tif files from my first project and they still imported okay (!) The files are numbered sequentially (test1_0000.png, test1_0001.png etc) – I am going crazy trying to find out what I am doing wrong. I contacted Sony customer support last week but haven’t heard anything yet – has anyone come else across this problem?

    Thanks

Can you import one of the pics from the explorer tab? Make sure your firast pic is checked or else the `import image sequence’ will be greyed out.

I had the same problem when bringing 3D image sequences in from Blender – it turned out to be because I had renamed the files left-0001, right_0001 etc. Try removing the “Test_” at the start and just leave the sequential numbers – it worked for me.

Thanks for your suggestions – I’m still not having any luck unfortunately. I can import the files individually onto the timeline but the `import image sequence’ is still greyed out. Tried renaming the images to 0000.png, 0001.png etc. but still no luck. It’s really frustrating because I can’t see why the files from my first project work fine but nothing else seems to work. I can’t see any difference in the files so perhaps it’s something to do with how I’ve set up my project. I’ll try a few more things and see if I can work it out.

    Thanks again for the suggestions

Do the ones that work start with 0001? If so try naming the new ones EXACTLY the same as the old ones.

I think I’ve solved the problem. I copied some of the image sequences that worked into my new project directory and they stopped working as well. That got me thinking maybe it was because the file path to my files was too long and so I moved the directory closer to the root directory and, hey presto, the import seems to work fine now. I thought that kind of thing wasn’t a problem anymore with the latest versions of Windows and 64 bit OS etc. Anyway – it seems to work (so far) so I’m not complaining.

Thanks to all for the advice.
