  • Problem importing HD .mov files into FCE 3.5

    Hi,

I am editing some footage for a client that I did not shoot myself. We don’t have the original footage, but a few dvds full of quicktimes. However, when I try to open one of the files in FCE 3.5, it shows up like this in the Viewer:

The top portion of the image plays, but the bottom part is scrambled. The audio is fine, though.

The file details in the bin for these clips include: 1280×720, 59.97fps, H.264, and 2.3 Mb/s. I’ve tried opening it in a project that is Apple Intermediate Codec 1080i60 and 720p, but the same thing happens.

I wonder if this has to do with the versions of Quicktime I have. I have QT 7 in my Applications:Utilities folder, but QT Player 10 in my Applications folder. When I open one of these files with QT 7 it looks scrambled like above, but QT Player 10 plays it fine. Is FCE using QT 7 to play this? I’ve searched for upgrades to QT but I don’t find any.

Any ideas why FCE can not play the file correctly?
