problem importing 1080i 50 .mov files

This may be a very stupid question, you’ll have to forgive me, I am used to working only in SD. I hope someone with some HD experience can help me…
I have shot some footage in 1080i 50 using a JVC HM100, which records straight to sd card in .MOV format. I have created a 1080i 50 project file in AVID and imported some footage, but when imported the clips show up as white screen. The audio seems fine. Presumably this is some sort of codec issue? How can I fix it?
Before anyone tells me -I know I could have used this camera to record as mpeg-2 -well I know that now but I didn’t know at the time when i didn’t get a chance to browse the menus.
I think it uses some kind of weird .mov codec that wraps as xdcam ex???

Definitely sounds like a codec issue.
What version of MC are you using? What is the codec of the clip your importing? What is your version of Quicktime?

my avid is media composer 3, i’m not sure what the version of quicktime i’ve got is (i’m away from that computer at the moment).
I’ve figured out that the files are xdcam wrapped as .mov
I’m currently on a mac with fcp, using compressor to transcode them to dvcpro hd 1080i/50 – they are processing right now and are appearing as .movs again (hopefully dvcpro wrapped as movs i guess???)
-will these work in avid? will I have compromised the quality at all?
