Problem getting preview to go back from Studio RGB to Computer RGB

This is working fine for my in Vegas Pro 13.0 with my ATI Radeon HD 5870 graphics card. I mention my graphics card because your card can definitely affect what Vegas is showing you since it’s using the Windows Secondary display as the preview device.

To test this, I dropped the NTSC Color Bars on the timeline from Generated Media and enabled preview and I could see all three blacks in the pluge. Then I checked “Adjust levels from studio RGB to computer RGB” and viewed it again and I could only see two blacks in the pluge which is exactly what I expected (i.e., it converted 16 to 0).

I wondered about the graphics card. I have a cheap Nvidia GTS 450 (it’s not even compatible with DaVinci Resolve Lite). I don’t want to buy a new graphics card just yet until I decide how advanced of one I want given my now 4 year old computer (3.07 Ghz Intel i7, 12 GB DDR3 RAM, and Windows 7, which to me are still good specifications, but I wonder if a more powerful graphics card wouldn’t be more suitable to a new desktop).

I only mention the graphics card because I know that some of the consumer cards have profiles to make watching movies look better but that’s horrible for video editing because you can’t trust what you are seeing. Just check the card manager software and make sure it’s not applying some profile that’s modifying what you see.
