Hello everyone I am having a problem exporting my project I am an editor based in Mexico City I`ll try to explain my problem in English the best I can

I am making an interactive disc for a restaurant chain in Mexico using FCP2, I used a Canon hv10 and hv20 (HD1080i)cameras to do it, shot on HD format, I made a platform that spins at 5rpm where you can set a plate or dish with the food you want to shoot, the final destination for this project is a very compatible interactive DVD so I am working with flash for interactivity and I intent to make FLV files after post-production, when I captured the footage I switched the camera to dv output so I could get an sd format to capture since the DVD is intent to be SD so it could be run in most computers and fit on a regular DVD 4.8gb, the capture went fine the footage looks really good in the timeline, but when I export the footage only the sections where the plate is spinning it looks like it is missing frames or jumping, on the timeline looks very smooth when spinning but once I export I get this problem, funny it only happens when the plate is spinning if there is any other action looks fine. The timeline properties are:

SIZE: 720 x 480 VID RATE: 29,97 fps COMPRESOR: dv/dvcpro – NTSC PIXEL ASPECT: NTSC- CCIR601 ANAMORPHIC FIELD DOMINANCE: LOWER EVEN

I tried many diffent settings to export using quick time conversion or compressor, the best I got is using quick time conversion using:

H.264 (I need a light file in order to fit in the disc but good quality)
    720 x 405 or 720 x 480 or Current
    Reordering Key Frames (Off)
Deinterlace video yes (only with this option I get the jagged lines off)
    Best Quality mode
The frame rate is set to 60 because if I use current or other the problem gets more agresive an the jumping is worse i don´t know why

Here is a still image of the footage so you get a better idea of how it looks I will upload a video if is necessary.

I will appreciate any advice and help on this issue, I hope my writting is understandable.

    Regards

Try this. Go into the Final Cut Browser, scroll over and change the source clip to “Upper field first” and then drag it to the timeline and have it match settings. That may not fix it but it’s worth a try.

What are you using to monitor this on?

Since this is a proyect than is only going to run on mac and PC computers I am calibratting the color to stay in the midle between MAC OS and horrible Windows OS calibration, so whay I am doing is exporting samples to run in PC and check out the color, I am not using any external device to monitor.

That’s your problem. 60i video is not meant for viewing on a computer monitor. It must be deinterlaced. I suggest using Apple Compressor. The reason it looks fine in FCP is because the Canvas and Viewer only show one field, not both.

Every time I export I check the Deinterlace option when I use quick time conversion the only thing it does is get the typical jagged lines off but jumpping and strobo effect is still there, now, Using compressor the only option I have to deinterlace is applying a filter that gives me the option to choose diferent methods but nothing gets better, there is another option for deinterlace but it´s in gray always and I can get it to change but it seems to be on, as I said before the final destination is a DVD programmed in Flash, what settings would you suggest I use keeping good res, smooth motion, small file and off course fix the actual problem?
Sean, I really appreciate the time you are taking to help, to be honest I was working in Adobe Premiere Pro for many years so this is kind of a whole new world..

    Thanks

Well finally I got the option for deinterlacing to be editable (it was so easy ), I ran many test using the different options the frame control can offer but still i am getting the jumping, as I said before do you suggest some settings?

    Thanks

    Pedro,

I’m not sure I fully understand what you mean by “jumping.” Do you mean mismatched fields? This is alternative to Compressor:

    Sean,

The video clip Pedro posted is clearly not playing smoothly. That’s the jumping Pedro is referring to. It’s not an interlace issue, it’s appears to be a framerate issue.

Thanks for the link, I am already making some test with it, but so far nothing happens, this is what I am doing I am exporting from FCP as:

    First Test
    Quick time conversion,compression h.264/best quality/encoding multipass/dimenssions 859 x 479/ Deinterlace check box is off/frame rate current 29.97

    Sencond Test
    Quick time conversion,compression h.264/best quality/encoding multipass/dimenssions 859 x 479/ Deinterlace check box is on/frame rate current 29.97

then I am importing this two in to JES Deinterlacer both with this options:

Then I switch settings: like in the Input top field first or progressive

on deinterlace tab I used top field, bottom field, both fields or blend fields

What I meant about jumping is more like strobo type of effect since the plate is rotating it seems like has no smoothness like if is jumping from one frame to another, I don`t know if this will make sence to you but when ever I export using QTC deinterlace with 60 frame rate it looks way better, but still has that problem, so I don`t know if I am dealing with a frame rate problem or a deinterlacing problem anymore. what do you suggest???

    thank again.
