  • Problem exporting to tape

Posted by Charisse on May 21, 2006 at 6:35 am

I’m trying to export a sequence to a JVC GR-D53AS DV cam.
I have a Gold X cable and am using the firewire ports on the camera and the computer.
The computer sees the camera, but the camera won’t play the sequence back.

    Any ideas?

The playback settings in Premiere Pro seem ok.

    Thanks!

Most likely you would have to put your camera into VTR mode, if it has that option. On my Sony Z1, it’s an option under menu called “external record control.” If you dont have an option similar to this, you may be out of luck. Hope this helps.

    Hi Richard,

    Thanks for the advice.
I’ve now got my hands on a Sony Digital 8 Handycam DCR-TRV285E

It only has 2 modes — Camera and Play/Edit.

I don’t see anything like “external record control”. In camera mode in the menu it says under ‘tape set’– ‘int. rec’, but no mention of ext. rec.

I need to get my film to another editor in Dubai (I’m in Afghanistan!) and thought that exporting to tape would be easiest/best, but I’m having no luck.

    Could you suggest another method?

I’m at a loss and crunched for time!

    Thanks!
    Charisse

I’m not familiar with the camera you’re speaking of, but I can’t find anything online that tells me that camera would have that option. Maybe somebody else would have more input on that one.

Without a camera or a deck, the only other method I know would be to export a movie and burn the data to DVD. Don’t actually encode the DVD, just burn the raw data on there for the other editor to pull off to his PC.

Hope this helps and good luck!

    Thanks for your advice.
I’ll keep at it and hopefully come right…soon!
