quick project, matching up a text layer on plane with a static storefront. MBP 10.5.7, FCP 6.0.5

Now, let’s see if I can explain this without sounding totally insane…
The distorted layer is distorting within the distortion. All points within the distorted layer are not where they should be, and instead of the text taking on a trapezoidal shape, it acquires a curve from layer center along the narrow end.

This phenomenon is independent of generators – all the useful generators exibit identical behavior, as do still images (tried workaround of making titles in Photoshop w/o adding perspective in PS).

I’ll work around it for now in PS, but for future projects: what the hey?

This would be a good time to post a frame grab 🙂

    Hm. Yes.

The picture is a sample still image export. The “SAMPLE TEXT” layer is distorted to fit just underneath and in perspective with the “_ORDSTROM” marquee… in fact, it looks fine until the image is actually exported or rendered. Once rendered, I get this:

there was another post about this issue recently.
at least, i think i saw it here on the cow fcp forum.

anyway, you are not going crazy, it’s a real issue.

the good news is that the post also included a SOLUTION,
which basically was a newly re-written simple 3D filter.

the bad news is i’m a bit fogy on the details.
i think it was Andy Mees who wrote the filter.
check out his”Better 3D”, it might be what you need:

or search the cow FCP archives.
