  • Problem Capturing Video on Sony Vegas

Hi i recorded some video off of my Sony Digital 8 camcorder and I’m trying to open it in Sony Vegas so i can edit and what not. I connected it to my PC with a IEEE1394 cable.

However, my computer does not detect the camera AT ALL. I’ve tried going through help menus on the program itself but nothing seems to be working.

I also tried capturing the video on windows movie maker but it also didnt recognize the device so I’m sure it’s not just sony vegas.

Any help would be appreciated. Thanks in Advance.

Does the computer do anything when you plug in the camera? Like new device found or those typical messages you get when using firewire and usb. Does your device manager show the Texas instrument IEEE-1394 device is working correctly? Do you have a firewire drive or something you can test the port with. Make sure you plug the camera in first, turn it on and let windows see it 1st. If windows won’t neither will Vegas. Danny Hays

Can you try to manually capture using the analog connections? You’ll need a analog-digital converter.

My Brother has a digital 8 and I’s sorry but I don’t remember if I was able to capture via the firewire or had to use analog.
