    hi all

i am capturing HDV material shot on the Sony V1U. I’m not sure what is happening…the footage is coming in as 720×480. I have the easy set up to capture HDV for editing in 1080p30 Firewire Basic. This is the first of the stuff i’ve captured, everything else i’ve been given was captured previously and is 1440×1080. I’ve run footage through the JES Deinterlacer as its 24p as well.

I’m sure i’m missing something really simple with the capture, i just am not sure what other direction to give FCP to capture. oh and also i’m using a sony HDV deck to capture.

please help if you can. thanks

Check that the deck is not down converting to DV. Also make sure your easy setup is correct.

the easy set up is this:

    format: HDV
    Rate: 29.97
Use: HDV – 1080p30 FireWire Basic

does that seem right? i looked at the other fire wire options and they’re obviously incorrect. somehow its capturing it as widescreen DV…853×480.

if it is downconverting somehow i’m not sure how to fix that…not my deck and it is confusing to operate as is.

    Thanks for your help

Easy Setup looks right. Check the menus in the deck and look for downconvert via firewire. Manuals for most decks can be found online in minutes.

And the other issue is to check if the tapes are HDV or DV. The Sony V1 can shoot both. If you play a tape, the deck should indicate if the tape is HDV or DV

You probably have iLink conversion ON in the camera/deck. It should be set OFF.
    Check your camera/deck settings.

ilink conversion is the option to downconvert from HDV to DV codec (standard def) via firewire.
