Problem capturing HDV with Premiere Pro CS4
I was ready today to do my first capture of the 1st HDV MiniDV tape from my Sony HC3 via firewire using Premiere CS4. The idea is creating all the offline clips marking the In and Out points and then just do a batch capture of the selected clips. Now the problem is the following. My first tape was recorded in such a way that no matter if I choose FRAMES or TIMECODE, as I play the tape it will go from 0 to a certain number and after that scene finishes it will drop to 0 and increase again to a certain number for the next scene and so on repeatedly for each scene until the end of the tape. So there is no scale or unit that I can choose that will show 0 for the beginning of the tape and increase linearly to a certain number for the end of the tape (63minutes total) and hence the different clips will intersect. How can I fix this? Thanks.

Is it not easier to capture the whole tape with scene detection ON.
The deleting the clips you do not want from the harddisk.
You can do that in the Bridge. -
The problem is that the Scene Detection option shows grayed out. I read that Premiere Pro CS4 does not offer HDV Scene Detection, only CS5. Is this so? And what do you mean by “the Bridge”? Thanks

Yes, thanks, I got that info from another forum, I already tried HDVsplit and it works perfectly. I wonder why Premiere doesn’t have the capture capability that the free simple HDVsplit software offers.

This worked exceptionally well.
I have been using PP since CS2. I am currently using CS4. It has never recognize my “Sony HVR-V1U camcorder”. Worse something has happened, most likely with a Windows update, and I can no longer perform Batch Capture. So that sent me looking and I came here.
All I did was download the program and ran the .EXE
I did not need to install the video or audio codecs. It did an excellent job of detecting the scenes and the end of the tape.
The only drawback I have to not installing any other codecs it that it is saving it to .m2t and I do not have anything other the CS4 to interpret the footage. Since I do not really plan on using anything in it’s completely raw form, I don’t really see this as a problem.
I had no problems then importing the files to CS4 PP.
