  • problem capturing from dv to xpro 4.6

while capturing from a DV tape (sony stock) shot in a DVX100A in 24P Advanced mode from a Sony DSR 1500A deck going into the Xpro 4.6 via the firewire input in the MOJO, I ran across this error on 3 tapes out of 10:

Exception: an unidentifiable error has occurred while capturing.

then, if gives you an option to hit OK or MORE. if you hit MORE then you get:

Exception: unable to EncodeFrame of valid size.

I have never had this problem before using many tapes of various brands coming from many different cameras from this same deck.

Can anyone please enlighten me as to what this means? I suspect that it’s a dropout issue, though, since the footage is of a very loud rock band with very bright lights, I wonder if that may have something to do with it. Though that wouldn’t explain why ALL the footage isn’t suffering from this problem. Perhaps it might be a time code issue?

Of course, when viewing the footage, no dropout or imperfection can be seen when the supposed error is happening. This is pissing me off.

In a situation like this I would try turning OFF the TC (timecode) button in the Record tool to see if you can get a clean capture. If that works– then just clone the problem tape and try again with the clone.

If it’s a multicam project and you need the original TC, all is not lost thanks to the “Group by Mark-In” feature.
