is them user friendly than AE? or can handle larger scenes properly than AE?

June 30, 2009 at 4:58 pmOne of the biggest limitations of AE and the subject of many a compositor day-dreams is the ability for AE to do two things:
1. Allow for true 3D distortion of layers. (e.g. Twist my footage like a spiral)and
2. At least allow some degree of import ability of 3D objects prepared in a 3D app. (which, yes, begs the question, “why not just use a 3D app?”) I’m holding my breath for “Adobe Cinema 4D” or at least that level of drag-n-drop interoperability.

June 30, 2009 at 5:20 pmFirst off, let it be known that After Effects is used in feature film work all the time. I’m sure many here will be able to concur.
Now, coming from an experienced AE user, who has begun to get his feet wet with the node based compositor NUKE, all I can say this…
In large, complex comps, node based workflows are much more organized. Honestly, I think that is really the biggest difference. As you may already know, using AE, it is too easy to get lost in multiple nested pre-comps and hundreds of layers taking up your workspace. Node based workflows avoid these issues, and make it very easy to pass off the project to other members of your team. Aside from this, compositing is still compositing, and both apps can produce the same results.
But because AE is so widely used, and has so many great third party add-ons, I think it is still extremely valuable to know and use. Particularly on projects that are not hundrerds of layers or need to be passed off to someone else. -

June 30, 2009 at 5:30 pmAgreed. AE has a “flowchart” window, but honestly I’ve only rolled my eyes the few times I’ve opened it. It’s not useful to me unless it has a thumbnail preview, not just a layer name. (let alone the ability to make changes to comps via the flowchart, like disconnecting nodes).
AE’s more recent “composition mini-flowchart” is a much needed improvement because I can at least step forward and backward through my comps. BTW, does anyone know a keyboard command that will walk back up-stream through comps I was in? I realize that an interface is needed because the flowchart may split into multiple paths, but I’m just looking for that “double click down into a comp” and “some-keyboard-shortcut” back up to where I just was.

June 30, 2009 at 5:36 pmyes sir. i agreed it. in some case; (this is my experience) when i work in larger scene (like HD1080 project) some larger composites, i faced more stucks in AE. we can change display resolution to quarter. but in larger compositions it not usefull more. i think u had this issue in AE. How is it on Fusion Or Nuke? effects preview renders faster or how is it goning…………?

I think that you’re looking for Shift+Esc.
