I rendered out a movie, 800*600, and when i play it back in quicktime the frames freeze and the frame rate drops to about 0.5/s. The movie does seem especially large, 450MB for 15 seconds. The original project was quite a heavy render, with many thousands of particles in Trapcode Particular. Is there anyway of making it playback normally without freezing? Or re-rendering to make sure it plays normally? I currently have 2GB RAM and cannot add any more. I suppose this is a common problem?

Thanks a lot for any help, it is greatly appreciated.

If you rendered out of AE losslessly then the data rate of the video is probably too high for your computer to handle. If you have QuickTime Pro (and you should) you can just (cmd-e/ctrl-e) export out from QuickTime player to a new codec, I recommend Photo JPEG for good quality and fast playback (still large file size though).

Great, thanks a lot. What codec settings could i use on my original render to ensure this doesn’t happen?

If your final export is a video you just want to see, I suggest you export it in .avi with xvid compression.
You can use VirtualDub and the xvid codec to do this.
