I’m looking for some insight into what I could do to solve a never-ending render using the AE Plugin side of PA 5.0.8 (CS6 Creative Cloud). The project is a stack of monitors and scaffolding (created from some primitives). Inside standalone or the PA Plug-in interface it renders in less than 3secs typically.

Inside AE I get an never-ending flash of repeated render bars blasting away below the comp window (as if rendering 1000s of small assets). I can view the render at 720p, but in a 1080p comp it just “pretends to render a view” for hours. I run w/ 26gigs of RAM. I’ve also checked RAM avail to AE (using the PREFS -> MEMORY & MULTIPROCESSING -> DETAILS) and have an abundant supply of memory available, atleast 15gigs+ at any given time.

Note that I also get the beloved “AE Needs 2 or more frames” error when trying to do a RAM preview. The frustrating thing is I would gladly do this in Standalone if I wasn’t using the AE cam and Layer Maps :/

Other solutions I’ve tried incl reinstalling, saving the PA scene and reloading it into an empty AE project w/ only a single solid for the plugin, as well as disabling lights, AE cam, shadows, etc.

Any help would greatly be appriciated!

    Hi Austin,

ProAnimator version 5.0.8 is not compatible with After Effects CS6, so that is why you are running into rendering issues.

Please use the download links below to download ProAnimator version 5.1.0. Please keep in mind that when working with version 5.1.0 and After Effects CS6, you will need to turn off the Disk Cache feature in After Effects in order for things to update properly.

We have since also released ProAnimator 6. ProAnimator 6 is fully compatible with After Effects CS6. In addition, it offers many exciting new features such as our Ray Trace renderer for ray-trace reflective floors, shadows, and also refraction, which is used to create realistic glass, ice or water effects. In addition, we also offer fragmentation, which lets you slice and dice any object into hundreds of little pieces.

If you have any questions, please let me know.

    Best,
    Edward

Thanks for the quick reply. I actually think I miss spoke and grabbed 5.1.0. However I didn’t know about the cache issue.

That said, I was planning on grabbing the v6 demo tonight and give it a shot. Thanks again, I’m sure that’s the issue and I’ll try and follow up to confirm everything is well!

I just wanted to follow up and say thank you. Purchased v6 and was able to render the project very quickly. In addition the temporary Auth. Code for the software was a great touch over when I last bought 5. Being under the deadline I was in, the ability to immediately buy, install, and render was quite nice.

    Hi Austin,

I’m glad to hear that you were able to render the project quickly with the version 6 upgrade. Thanks for the update!

Right, we want our users who upgrade to be up and running as soon as possible so we changed our system with the temporary code.

    Best,
    Edward
