Is there a plugin that one can get for final cut pro that compensates for the lack of VTR control settings? Maybe i’m missing something but it seems to me that even premiere has better control out of the box. Here’s my dilemma:

I produce a weekly show and have been using Axio with Premiere which is far too unstable for my tastes. A part of the weekly show needs is to write the tape segments to HDCAM. One of the ways we keep the cuesheet organized is to start the timecode on the tape at 1 hour and put the segments on the minute mark after the end of the previous segment. This obviously requires a bit of control of the timecode on the deck.

I am using a blackmagic hd extreme card and the serial out from it to control the deck, with SDI in to the deck from the card. I can get video OUT, that’s not an issue, but the real problem is that I can’t get the timecode on the tape written correctly. I want the timecode on the timeline to be the same as on the tape, basically. Or vise versa.

so, when i start the print to tape:

The deck should spool up, get running and THEN the output from FCP should start, overwriting the timecode on the tape.

Is this possible with Blackmagic or FCP in general?

Is there a comparable plugin for FCP to ProVTR?

    Thanks in advance.

The first thing you need to do is stripe timecode onto the tape. Just the first couple minutes…from 58:00:00 to about 1:00:30 or so. Then you EDIT TO TAPE…not PRINT TO VIDEO. And do an ASSEMBLE edit, that will then continue to write the timecode from where you started laying off…carrying over the timeline timecode.
