  • Pro Tools on SAN – How to do video?

    Hi all

A ijust asked this on the Io forum: How do you do video on a G5-based pro tools system when you have only three PCI slots available: two slots are taken up by pro tools hardware cards, and the third by the fibre card.

So if the whole idea with the SAN is to access DV or uncompressed SD video, how do we display the video? There’s no more PCI space for a decklink or kona card, and Io does not work with pro tools over firewire.

    Any more ideas?

    Thanks
    Francois

If you need to view the video full screen,
You might try using the firewire out from your G5 to a DV VTR.
Make your Ref. video using the DV codec, and adjust the offset as needed in the ProTools pulldown menu.
Attach the DV VTR to an NTSC or PAL monitor and you have full screen video playback.

Thanks, but that is how I am running now – using a ADVC100 converter. Problem: It does not play uncompressed codec.

First Prize would be a decklink card but the G5 has too few PCI slots.
Second Prize would be a AJA Io, but the driver does not allow general quicktime to play out through the Io, like decklink does.

    There’s my problem…

    Regards
    Francois
