I used “courier” font in pro titler and it looks like hell. rendred to DVDA template. Are there some fonts I need to stay away from, or…?

    thanks

    John,

Try to stay away from fonts with thin lines.
To increase the sharpness of your fonts double the
    resolution size while inside titler.
For example default will be 720 X 480,
    increase this to 1440 X 960.
Then at render set qualty to best.
This will give you the sharpest fonts.

Also note that when previewing CG on your
monitor, set the preview quality to full best.

    Regards, Rick.

    Thanks, Rick
Yes, they look a whole lot better that way on the LCD tv.
Now, I still have an issue with a throbbing, mushy glow when viewed on a CRT tv. These are white letters on Black background. I lowered the white levels to 203 203 203, but do I need to do anything with the background to help with that?
Also notice a choice between HSV and RGB. Does it matter what that is set to?
    I’d do a test, but I don’t have a crt tv handy.

    thanks,
    John

If I remember correctly without finding where I put it, Whites should be 235 and black at about 13 for TV’s.

I found it. Here’s copies of some answers to a thread I started back in 2003.

    >make sure your color’s /white are not over 225 RGB …
    >try keeping your blue under 200 ( IE: 16 16 200 or 0 0 200) >just keep max below 200 …

    >For computer pictures, white as 255-255-255 is fine, but >it’s far to “hot” for video and will cause bleeding. I was >told that the max while for video should be 235-235-235
    >(bright gray on computer, but looks white on video). Since >it’s easier to remember and key in, I use 234-234-234.

    >some of this has to come from experience. 235 is suppose to >hold BUT IMO not in every situation. a 235 white background >with 235 BLUE/red text is not going to hold up without some >bleeding ..back your white down to 225 and blue to 200-225 >and you’ll find much better results. reverse the above to >black background and 235 blue will hold better but again >better results with 225 blue…change to 4:4:4 color space >and no problem holding 235 235 235 white background with 235 >color text. 4:2:2 holds up good but 230’s holds up better >then 235’s.

    Thanks Allen,
So I did lower the levels to 204, in Pro Titler, and I’m still clipping. I think something in Pro-Titler isn’t right or understood by me.
    Here’s what i do:
    -select text
    -style tab,
    -color,
-click and drag sliders down to 204 204 204 255
-histo still shows clipping (this I don’t understand)
    -render out,
    -throbbing and bleeding on crt,

And how do you adjust the background Black? I tried checking the “background, color” button and setting thses to 16… but I don’t know if that’s doing what I want either – it seems more for “highlight” area behind each letter rather than the whole screen.
