Is there a comprehensive tutorial that goes a little deeper into the workings of the pro titler without having to use your last nickel? I’d really like to learn this program without having to write a check for a work around every time I run into a wall.

I have been trying to work with the titler and learn it on my own, but at times I think it’s possessed. It crashes more often than not and I ask myself, “What would Survivorman Les Stroud do other than get paid to lead in and take out Pro Type Titler Basics?” Gee, thanks for the start, Les! You would think Sony could have taken the money and give the customer a little more than a glimpse at the thing…;^)

There’s much more to discover with the new ProType Titler, but the techniques you’ve learned here will give you a great start on building a completely new dimension into your projects. Take some time to experiment with the ProType Titler and soon you’ll be creating dynamic and exciting text that not only complements your video editing work, but helps you take your video projects to a new level of professional quality.

I read this Theo and like the video is does not go deep enough. They can very well afford to do better…

If you want something better, you should have a look at Boris Graffiti as a Vegas plug-in. Muchhhhhhhhh better.

They needed to offer highend tutorials like Boris Red, Adobe Affect Effects, Avid, and Final Cut Pro is doing. For the longest I’d email Boris Red to offer more tutorial on their software. I knew I was not getting the most out of it. Now my skills have really jump up on using Boris Red. SCS is really close.

Yes Theo, it does look much better. A few hundred dollars better. This is my problem with it all. Everywhere you turn you have to buy something else to get it done. I did download the trial for Boris, but didn’t open it. It is still lagging behind the 64 bit technology. Maybe if I save my pennies I’ll have enough for the software when they catch up.

I couldn’t agree more Jonathan. I see a ton of well done tutorials available on their dime.

    Hi Mike.

I’m maybe not the best one to talk, because I have been upset about Sony Vegas in the past. And I would also like to see lots more free tutorials, and I do have beefs about Vegas Pro. However, in all fairness, Vegas really does seem to be a fairly powerful and easy-to-use editing solution for what you pay (at least compared to Avid, CS5 and Final Cut Pro). Personally I think Sony is backwards for not supporting P2, and it is sad that Boris RED does not integrate well (and that Sony does not offer more native 3D effects and/or a good chroma keyer), but all in all, given the limited cost of the basic package and the ability to buy quality plug-ins and tutorials if one wants them, it occurred to me that I really should stop complaining.

I know you don’t want to pay, but I am going through the VASST Absolute Training series, and they really pack a lot into it. Volume 9 of their series is all about the Pro-Type Titler. I have not watched it yet, and I am on as tight a budget as anyone, but if it is as good as the first two disks, I am sure I will learn a lot. I hope that helps, somehow.

    Thanks Norman,
I can certainly understand what you are saying about the price point. It all seems like it’s pay me now or pay me later type of thing. Apple and the others have always been expensive. I have read the Sony powerful and easy to use lines, but they fail to mention the plugins and all the aftermarket costs you need for that ease. At this point financially I have to learn most of it from within the hard way or just walk away.

OK, so when you get stuck can you just ask specific questions here on the COW? Or is that not hard enough (lol 🙂

    ha ha.

LOL, Norman! I do have questions that most times are answered with solid solutions to the problem. Then there are those that nudge me to get second job…

    Hi Norman,
Those training DVD are great place to start. But I am talking about multilevel compositing and 3D parenting to child nesting.

Also the enterworking with 3D titling using real world projects. Please don’t gives us examples using generates media.

I think Vegas can be the number one software for independent documentary filmmakers.
Please add more tools for filmmaking. Work with the Sony hardware camera team more, but I do starting see evident of that now. Take advantage of 24p,include and create specialize 24p filters and update the velocity tool.
They have to update their alpha swipe fx and speed change etc.
