I’m starting to hear now that you have to have a Dual Core Mac PRO (INTEL) system to be able to even capture Pro-Res in HD.

    Is this true?

Can I capture from a multibridge extreme into a PCI-E equipped G5 Quad system with a 4gb fibre channel array?

If not this will be a HUGE disapointment, this system is barely a year old.

You might be disappointed then. Quad G5 MIGHT be ok from what I’ve been hearing. But that is the bare minimum for HD (if it even works).

I have a dual G5. ProRes works with standard def, but barely. Both CPUs climb up to 80% during capture, and about 60% during playback. First time trying to output to tape, I got a dropped frame error. This is standard-def mind you. Not even going to attempt HD.

When I was at NAB, the people there told me I should be fine, my G5 should work no problem, yadda yadda. Total BS.

yeah this whole Pro-Res with HD on a G5 architecture has been a very silent thing I’ve noticed.

I have yet to know anyone with a G5 quad that has tried it.

I’ll have fcs 2 on friday and will post results monday.

Cool, look forward to it. But shouldn’t this discussion go in the Final Cut forum?
