I am out shooting a feature and have been using fcp log and transfer to bring in HVX 720pN footage. The image seems a bit noisy and we are getting worried.

i have been logging and transfering with the regular pro res 422 NOT the HQ. I remember reading that it wouldn’t make a different with our resolution. Is this true? Are we talking more about just light quality? Should i start to log and transfer with the HQ codec?

    THANKS!

Post a still please- noisy is an entirely subjective description. Is it noticeably noisier in FCP say that it is when you play back the P2 card on the camera?

If you are shooting with HVX200, you will bring in the footage via Log & Transfer as DVCProHD.

I am just curious where the ProRes conversion is happening in your workflow?

Me too. Hvx is dvcpro HD only. What model? 200 or 200a? Also, a still will help, but a few seconds of full res video helps more.

You are all correct! I am mistaken. When i look under the Log and Transfer preferences i see P2 plugin and under the transcode it reads Apple Pro Res. however, in the browser all the clips say DVCPRO HD under the compressor column.

I would love to get a screen shot up here but the producer will not let me. I will try and convince them today.

    Thanks for the help!!

P2 AVCINTRA comes in as ProRes. P2 DVCPRO HD always comes in as DVCPRO HD….zero transcoding. All that is happening is a QT wrapper is put on the footage and audio and video are tied. The noise is happening when you shoot.

Do you have the gain turned on in the camera?
