Pro-Res HQ vs non-HQ
Posted by Chris Borjis on May 28, 2007 at 7:57 pmIs there any real visual differences anyone has noticed between the Pro-Res HQ mode and regular modes?
or is it something like only 10-bit mode works on the HQ mode?

May 28, 2007 at 8:39 pmThe difference is 145 Mb/s versus 220 Mb/s. This is the same as Avid’s DNxHD codecs and equates to the difference between HDCAM and HD-D5. I doubt you’ll see any difference in one pass through the codecs. If there are any, it will probably take blowing it up on a bigger screen to see.
Complex computer-generated sources, like animation with gradients, would be the best way to test. Standard video noise and film grain will tend to hide any artifacts at this level in normal video. Also check for any softening of the image. Look at the texture of hair on people in close to medium shots.
