Hi, apologies once again if this topic has been covered but any help would be appreciated. I am editing a showreel for an actor friend – sources have come from all over, all SD – mostly from dvd, so am going to get everything in at apple DV pal res and master on MiniDV and dvd. However, a few bits are from HD and I have them as HQ Pro Res quicktimes. I cannot find a good way of downressing to DVpal without the quality looking terrible – everything is really jagged, obviously captions look really bad. Tried using compressor, which looked awful, Mpeg streamclip looked mildly better, and sticking the prores clip into the DV timeline and rendering still looked bad. Surely there must be a way of doing this without the clips looking so bad?
    Many thanks for any thoughts.

    Hey James,

Can you recapture the HD as SD using a capture card? Might get the best results that way.

What’s the frame rate of the HD clips?

    Hi Jerry,
No can’t recapture as I just have quicktime files – no tape, and also I don’t have a capture card. Everything is at 25 fps.

Recompress using Media Manager. Works like a charm.

Just make sure you recompress the hd stuff only in its own sequence or bin; otherwise you’re adding steps to convert sd dv that’s already in the res you need it in. (Assuming it’s already in there as dv.)

Try tweaking compressor settings if this doesn’t work.
