  • Pro Import with Avid in CS6: bug RAM previewing comp ?

Posted by Steven Nichols on September 25, 2012 at 3:53 pm

I imported an Avid timeline into AE using Pro Import.
It worked OK until I RAM previewed the comp: I had color bars instead of my footage and an error message telling me “After Effects error: Error (4) reading from file…) then AE was unresponsive reading those files.
I restarted the app and gave it another shot, but this time playing instead of RAM previewing. It worked OK this time, and I was able to RAM preview the comp, but only because all the frames were loaded into RAM.
So I suspect a bug loading frames into RAM with conventional RAM previews…
Anybody had better experience with Avid and Pro Import in CS6 ?

I did another test on another machine. For a moment I thought it worked because MP was not enabled.
However when I tried to reopen the project, AE gave me an error message telling me “this “Moov” file was damage or unsupported” 🙁
Looks like Adobe has still some work to do with Avid. Is there a way to report that bug ?

I have had this problem all day – I fixed it by going through my Quicktime codes and removing all except the Pro Quicktime codecs that come with Final Cut!

I also tried the Boris plugin and ended up with the same problem. I think it’s related to XDCAM EX… I don’t have FCP on this machine.
