Can Premiere Pro capture natively the clips from a JVC HD200 camcorder? I was told that Pro HD is not the same as HDV. But upon checking the manual, JVC HD200 is actually HDV, which is a format that I know Premiere can handle. Has anyone tried downloading clips from that camera using Premiere? Thanks and God bless.

There are actually two standards under HDV…HDV1 which is 1280x720p60 and HDV2 which is 1440x1080i (non-square pixel to make a 16:9 picture)

    ProHD is HDV1.

Premiere Pro should handle it without an issue. There is another poster on the board who is experiencing some crashes, but that shouldn’t have anything to do with any ‘as designed’ behaviors in Premiere Pro.

I know several people personally who work with JVC ProHD cameras and PPro and I haven’t heard anything about any systemic issues.

Thanks Tim! Is HDV2 better than HDV1 (I think it is, just looking at the numbers)? What are HDV2 cameras around $5,000 price? God bless.

I don’t think one is better than the other…they’re different.

Well shot 720p looks great. The JVC ProHD cameras tend to be a bit more expensive due to the exchangeable lens and the non-LCD viewfinder.

The Sonys and Canons are great as well…(HDV2)

There does seem to be occasional issues with the JVC cameras interfacing with various computers…but it’s not common and it can be a little mysterious.

As far as format goes…HDV1 is fine.
