    Thanks a lot Ricky,

Your advice, links and files help me a lot. Especially the part about importing into Print CD as a background. I hadn’t thought of that and the “import picture” feature was very limiting and frustrating. At least I’m not forced to resize the background image like I have to with an “imported picture”.

It still baffels me though as to why such a wonderful printer would require you to use such a sucky piece of software to print DVDs with. Why don’t they just make a plugin that interfaces it with Photoshop and make everyone happier (Epson, you listenting?).

    Thanks again,
I’ll definitely try it your way. -Rob

    thanks

    Hi All,

I too was searching for an answer to ‘How do I print directly onto DVD’ question!

Whilst i was searching i came across the creative cow sight, which from a editing/camera guy POV is great, but this time didn’t quite tick my boxes, however something else did so i thought i’d share it with you lot as you’ve be so helpful to me in the past.

There is a but…. I like many of you (probably) have Roxio Toast, which includes ‘Disc Cover RE 2’ in the ‘Extras’ menu. This is a basic edit program, but for me, worked really well (as I couldn’t find my original disc that came with my Epson printer). The Disc Cover RE 2 has templates for most printers with DVD Trays and templates for sticky labels too as far as i can see.

I believe the program is a download extra, but i’m not sure.

Either way, if you already own some kind of CD/DVD burning or copying software, it might just have a template for your printer/dvd tray.

    Hope this helps.

    Hi,

I am replying to your post below.

I would greatly appreciate a copy of your CD?DVD template for my Epson R1800. I have had no luck getting it to print.

    Thanks,

    Ed

I’ve been creating DVD labels in Photoshop and exporting as an RGB JPEG file. I then import as a picture into the crappy Epson software. No problem. If you want my template, just let me know. It has Reg marks and outlines for “small hub” and “large hub” discs.

As for the print-straight-from-Photoshop thing, why bother? We tried several templates in A4 and never got it to line up consistently. It seems that Epson’s software is just as much a mechanical driver as it is a page layout designer. I think they wanted it to be exclusive.

Thanks to an kind email from John at Primary Purpose Recording when he found this thread 11 days ago, I have made the link to the old template active again, made a new Illustrator template with proper circular guides, and also added a new Photoshop template. All are linked from the new Print CD page on my site along with legacy versions, Print CD screenshots, some helpful tips, a link about circular guides in Illustrator, and a link to my favorite Prime Eligible printable discs on Amazon.

I recently buy an Epson L800. I print many CD/DVD in a day. I do not want to use the Epson software to print on DVD. I want to use Photoshop. Atfer I create a full blak A4 page and I put the printer to show me print preview, I see the plate where the printer put the CD on A4 paper.
I make a print screen and I create a template.
Now I’m printing from Photoshop. 🙂
    Here is the template: https://www6.zippyshare.com/v/89104300/file.html
Contact me if the link is ded.
    Regards!
