We have 140 rolls of captured video on a project and are looking for the best way to print out selective columns of log notes, including time code on the clips and subclips. We’ve tried a program called Final Print, but it has limited customization options and produces too many pages per roll. It does provide a nice thumbnail, but that image is too large and consumes too much space on the page.

Is there a straightforward way to export the fcp logs to Excel, or some other database which can be manipulated for printing? Or is there a handy software package for the small production company, something that is not meant mainly for large broadcasters with many workstations and thousands of hours in the media library?

We must not be the only people who are looking at this problem, I just have not been able to nail it down! Many thanks for any suggestions.

You can use Find in FCP to get the records you want, then export batch list from the found bin. You can open the batch list in Excel, as tab delimited, and then the sky’s the limit.

I would contact the developers over @ digital heaven and see what they can do for you (the people that make Final Print).

    Hi Peter,

You may try my free and unsupported readXML (Tiger only). It will put all your data onto the clipboard and can paste it into Excel.

    Thanks for all these ideas.
We will probably end up using Excel, because it is more compact and more manipulateable. Drawback of course is no thumbnails. Maybe someday apple will include a nice printout plug-in for fcp logs.
