Printing DVCPRO 50 to tape
I’m working on a show where we’re shooting P2 for a feature but have to deliver three minutes of selects to a company at DVCPRO 50 standard definition. It’s going to be a crazy turnaround time (like two hours to edit and print to tape) so I had a couple questions about the prospective workflow…
If I cut a 3 minute segment at HD and export it to a .mov file, can I just run it through Compressor’s DVCPRO 50 setting and then bring it back into final cut to print it to tape?
In theory this makes sense to me, but if so…does it have to go to DVC PRO tape stock on a DVC PRO deck? Can a Mini-DV deck handle that via firewire or are they two completely different languages?

DVCPro 50 cannot be recorded on miniDV stock. Nor can a miniDV deck record DVCPro 50 (although some DVCPro 50 decks may be able to record DV onto miniDV stock).
If you have an HD capture card, you can probably downconvert in real time as you record out to the DVCPro 50 deck.
