I’d *guess* that you need to tell the camera to not letterbox, but to record an anamorphic image… If it’s anamorphic in FCP, the camera should be able to record it as such.

Could I export a 16×9 QT and then bring that file to a dub house and have them lay it to tape anamorphic?

    Hey Jerry,

I think I figured it out. I took my 16×9 timeline, exported it to Qt with the anamorphic checkbox ticked, reimported into a 4:3 timeline and unchecked the anaormphic box and now it looks squeezed like it should. Is that correct?

    Thanks,
    Mark

Seems to me you should check that camera’s setup… but if you record a stretched and tall version, and it fills the screen on the DV tape, you’re home free. It’s anamorphic.

No. It should not looked squeezed in the camera viewscreen. Are you sure your original 16:9 material was edited in an anamorphic sequence? Check its item properties. When you output to tape, the material should look widescreen, not squeezed in the camera. Does that camera have a widescreen viewer or is it 4:3? If it’s 4:3 the anamorphic material will be displayed in letterbox. When you shoot with the camera, isn’t that how you see it?

    All the best,

    Tom
