  • Print to tape issues with animated graphic

    Hello All,

I looked through past posts for an answer to this…. but in the case that my “cow-fu” is not strong enough, then I apologize in advance for a double post.

    2.8Ghz Quad-Core Intel | 2 GB 800 MHz DDR RAM | OS 10.5.2 | FCP 6.0.4

Today, I attempted to “Print to Video” two spots I created for broadcast. Both spots are HDV and I layed off the first of 2 back to an HDV tape without any issue. On the second spot, I printed to tape and on review noticed there was a glitch on the tape. The tape, on playback, effectively stopped right before my one animated graphic and started up again as soon as it was back to the footage. I thought it was a bad tape, but after several tapes and several tries I still had the same issue. I thought, perhaps, that the animated graphic was not actually recording to tape at all; however, when I went back through the problem area of the tape, frame by frame, the graphic did indeed print to video. The tape is simply unable to playback the animated graphic! This is all the more baffling as the first spot, which layed off perfectly, had the same animated graphic within it.

I recorded to a Sony HDV/DVCAM deck. My settings were double checked by another editor. I found a work around, but am intrigued by what might have caused this.

    Grazie,

    Neal

    Hi Neal,
Really strange behave. No idea of the reason, but I would like to know your work around.

The workaround was more of a project specific one than a software/hardware work around. I simply duplicated the animated logo I had used in the first spot (that worked correctly) and overwrote the troubled area in the second spot. So, unfortunately, its not a universal work around, but it worked for my project.

What is really strange is that you can not see the logo in play, but you can see iit n frame-by-frame on the tape. Weird.

Hi, it’s may be a codec issue. I suggest you to check your sequence’s properties.
    bye

I did double check the sequence project/sequence settings this morning and all of the sequences (those that did and did not work) are set to HDV 1080i60.
