    Hi There,

I am probably being very lazy here and not reading the manual fully but I would appreciate any comments from people who have printed to tape regularly.

Basically I have a video that needs putting to tape – with PAL Bars & Tone at the start – but has to start on a given timecode exactly (10:00:00:00).

I am am dumping to Beta SP and intend to set the timecode for 09:59:00:00 – run my clock, bars and tone for 40 secs (from 09:59:20:00, obviously) – goto black at 09:59:58:00 then into the video itself bang on 10:00:00:00.

How is the best way of ensuring I can do this frame perfect?

    Just use “Edit to Tape”.

It will give you bars, tone, even a slate. You enter the start timecode, and it is frame-accurate.

But really, do yourself a favor and read at least part of the manual. =)

I would seed the tape for 11 seconds using the front panel preset of the Beta machine for 09:58:50:00 so you can do an assemble edit at 09:59:00:00 (an analog machine is going to need some preroll) by dragging your sequence to the Edit to Tape window Assembly edit (don’t forget set an inpoint–i.e. 09:59:00:00). Don’t forget to add about 30 sec to a minute of black afterwards so you don’t call down the wrath of the video tape engineering gods.

I’m curious, why are you hitting you program sequence at 10:00:00:00 instead of 01:00:00:00?

    Inquiring minds,

    Don’t worry Mr. B. I have a cunning plan…
