  • Print To Tape 23.98 on AJHD1400?

Posted by Jeff Coffman on August 29, 2008 at 4:34 pm

I have a program that was shot on the HVX-200a at 720/24p. I’m trying to Print To Tape my 23.98 timeline to the AJHD1400.
The problem arises when I switch the deck to read 23.98 in the 720p mode, and I’m denied recording to tape. The computer says it decects a copy protection on the tape or deck, which shows the “rec inhibit” light (the rec inhibit switch is set to off).

When I set the deck to read 59.94, recording to the deck is then allowed. I did a test run of laying my 23.98 show on a 59.94 timeline, then printing to tape, which worked. Does anybody know how I can retain my 23.98 frame rate going to tape?

    Thanks

    Jeff

[Jeff Coffman] “When I set the deck to read 59.94, recording to the deck is then allowed. I did a test run of laying my 23.98 show on a 59.94 timeline, then printing to tape, which worked. Does anybody know how I can retain my 23.98 frame rate going to tape? “

That’s correct. The deck (and the cameras) always record to 59.94 and flag the 23.98 frames. You lay out to tape at 59.94.

Thanks! So why does the deck even let you set it to 23.98?

So laying off at 59.94 only allows me to lay off just over 30 mins. Why do they make the tapes to read 66?

Ahhh…the old tape labeling. Actually the yellow tape denotes the length if recording DVCPro. And the RED tapes show the length when recording DVCProHD. It is the same tape, so we all use the yellow stock and it is the most common. But the marking on the tape itself is not correct for HD.
