I know this has been covered to death, but I’m about to spend REAL money, as opposed to the speculative kind, to buy a 6 Terrabyte eSATA raid.

Before I continue let me qualify this by saying that I’m only interested in a single vendor solution, tech support is important to me, I’ll be formatting Raid 5, and it will be used in a MacPro system that needs to handle DVCPRO HD 720P30 using 4 source multi-cam clips.

    I’m looking at 3 options:

    1 – CalDigit HDPro – $8000 / 3 year warranty

    2 – Dulce Pro DQ – $7250 / 3.5 year warranty

    3 – Sonnet Fusion D800 – $6000 / 2 year warranty

They all claim very high read/write rates, although what the actual rate will be with the raids 80 – 90% full and fragmented is a little hard to tell. Still, speed differences don’t seem significant. I have a Sonnet card now and I’m pleased with it, CalDigit has a well known name, Dulce less so.

So basically I’m trying to figure out if there’s a reason to spend more money for either the Dulce or the CalDigit.

    Thanks.
