  • Preview to monitor not as I want it.

Hi I’m running AFX 6.5 and I have 2 x Quadro 540 cards in my computer (PC), and I have a 3 monitor setup, 2 computer monitors and one client monitor.

Now, when I playback in Adobe Premiere Pro 1.5 the video does output as it should to my client monitor which I’ve connected to the component output of the Quadro Card.

But in AFX I can’t seem to get the video preview to mirror on the client monitor. I see no settings in AFX but the preferences>preview one, and a the box under time controls toggeling between full screen preview and not. When I video preview the client monitor only shows a clone of my main monitor, it does not go into fullscreen video mode.

Under preferences>preview I have 3 output devices to choose from. Desktop Only, Blackmagic Output and IEEE 1394 Output. I’ve set my output to desktop only (which is the same I’m doing with premiere pro – where the desktop mirroing works).

    Am I doing anything wrong?
Can AFX preview on the client monitor as Premiere can (I’ve done it on a mac, but what with PC)?

AE does this fine on Windows. Select Blackmagic output to get output to / from your Blackmagic card, or IEEE1394 output to get output fire your firewire connection, and plug up your monitor accordingly.

The question must be asked – why are you using your computer display card for video previews when you have a true professional solution (the Blackmagic card) built into your machine?

Is it because your Decklink outputs SDI, and your broadcast monitor only accepts composite?

(Just comfirming: does the Quadro output composite or component?)

The Decklink SP outputs component, and good broadcast monitors accept component. That’s what I have.

Just to straighten things out: I do not have a decklink card. I have 2 x PNY quadro 540 cards.

The Blackmagic option I get for video preview is because I have the codec installed, but I have no hardware to suport blackmagic video output. I want AE to use my PNY card. As I said, PPro 1.5 does this fine.

I have no firewire devices connected to my system, and the client monitor is connected to the PNY card using a Component signal.

Hmm … So AE has to work with the Quadro card. I don’t think AE is working together with as many vendors as Premiere is, or the programs output differently, and a different kind of programming is necessary to output the comp window through hardware.

Reading this doc leads one to conclude that contacting the PNY folks would be prudent, I suppose.

Sorry I couldn’t be more helpful.
